The main part of the house dates back to the 1640’s. At that time, a building’s floor plan was limited by the length of a strong tree’s height. As a consequence, some of the rooms are perhaps smaller than you might expect. Windows were also smaller than in more modern properties — both to conserve heat and defend the house more easily. The new windows are modeled on an original, now preserved within the building. They are carefully crafted to reflect the style of 1640’s and brought up to modern standards with double glazing in oak casements.
The floors are a mixture of Blue Lias stone, reclaimed brick and quarry tiles. The much sought after Blue Lias would have been quarried locally from the Mendips. We have retained the authenticity of the building downstairs by leaving these flagstones exposed. Upstairs is fully carpeted.
All our rooms are individually furnished and decorated. Rooms are decorated with lime wash as they were originally. Furnishings are a mixture of both period and contemporary pieces.
